Zostrix is used to relieve muscle and joint pain. Zostrix causes temporary relief for pain caused by strains, sprains, arthritis, bruising, or backaches. Zostrix can also be used to treat people who have nerve pain due to herpes zoster, or shingles.
Store Zostrix at room temperature in a dry, cool location. Keep this medication away from children and pets. Keep away from fire as it is a flammable substance when in liquid form.
Before using Zostrix inform your doctor if you have any allergies to hot peppers, chili peppers, exc. Inform your doctor of any other allergies you may have. Consult your doctor if you have an irritation near or on the area you plan to apply the medication to.
Only use this medication when necessary during pregnancy as it may have risks that affect you.
Patient Family Information : Take Zostrix as prescribed to you or follow the directions provided on the label. Zostrix may cause a burning sensation when used. Do not apply to any areas with an open wound, any sunburned skin, or any other irritated areas. You may apply this medication with a glove or use other methods of application (ex: Q-tip). If you use your hands to apply the medication, immediately wash your hands well. After applying this medication you may put clothing over the medicated area. Do not swim, bathe, or shower one hour before until one hour after using this medication. It may take up to two weeks for the medication to begin showing its effects.
If you have allergies to any ingredients of this medication or the medication itself do not use it. If you have ever had an allergic reaction to chili peppers, do not use this medication. Check with your doctor about any other allergies before using Zostrix.
Sever Side Effects : Severe: Allergic reaction, severe burning at location of application, redness where applied, difficulty breathing/swallowing.
Common: mild burning at location of application.
