WHAT IS XELJANZ? 

Xeljanz (Tofacitinib) is a prescription medication that helps with the treatment of moderate to severe rheumatoid arthritis or active psoriatic arthritis. There are also other disorders that can be treated by Xeljanz: ulcerative colitis, ankylosing spondylitis, and juvenile arthritis. It belongs to a class of drug called antirheumatics or Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, which works by blocking enzymes called Janus kinase, which is responsible for the swelling that results in rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis.

XELJANZ DOSAGE

For the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, the recommended dose is 5 mg, taken orally, twice daily.  

For the treatment of psoriatic arthritis, the recommended dose is 5 mg, taken orally, twice daily.  

For the treatment of ulcerative colitis, the recommended dose is 10 mg, taken orally, twice daily, for at least 8 weeks. You may continue the dosage of 10 mg twice daily for 16 weeks. The maintenance dose is 5 mg, taken orally, twice daily.  

For the treatment of ankylosing spondylitis, the recommended dose is 5 mg, taken orally twice daily. 

In case you missed a dose of this medication, take the medication tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next scheduled dose for your condition, you can skip the missed dose and take the next one. Don’t take a double dose of Xeljanz to make up for the missed dosage.  

In case you are experiencing fainting or trouble breathing, which are possible symptoms of an overdose, call the local emergency hotline and seek medical attention immediately.
