About Voltaren Ophthalmic Solution (Diclofenac Sodium)
Uses and Benefits of Voltaren Ophthalmic Solution (Diclofenac Sodium)
Voltaren Ophthalmic Solution (Diclofenac Sodium) is indicated for treating eye inflammation after cataract surgery and eye inflammation following a non-penetrating eye injury. As a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), it helps reduce swelling and discomfort in the eyes.
Ingredients in Voltaren Ophthalmic Solution (Diclofenac Sodium)
The active ingredient in Voltaren Ophthalmic Solution is diclofenac sodium, 0.1% w/v. Inactive ingredients include boric acid, edetate disodium, cremophor EL, tromethamine (TRIS), sorbic acid, and water.
How to Use Voltaren Ophthalmic Solution (Diclofenac Sodium)?
Follow your doctor’s prescription exactly.
For cataract surgery, apply 1 drop into the affected eye(s) up to 5 times in the 3 hours before surgery. After surgery, apply 1 drop into the affected eye(s) 15-, 30-, and 45-minutes following surgery. Then apply 1 drop 3 to 5 times per day for up to 4 weeks.
For inflammation from non-penetrating wounds, apply 1 drop into the affected eye(s) 4 to 5 times per day, as directed by your doctor.
Before applying, wash your hands and sit or stand comfortably. If you wear contact lenses, remove them first. Check the dropper tip to ensure it is not chipped or cracked. Avoid touching the dropper tip against your eye or anything else to prevent contamination.
Pull down your lower eyelid with a clean finger to create a pocket. Bring the bottle tip close to your eye, gently press the bottle’s base to release one drop at a time. Do not squeeze the bottle forcefully. Close your eyelid and press the inner corner of your eye for 2 minutes.
If you need to use drops in both eyes, repeat the steps for the other eye. Immediately close the bottle cap after use. Do not wipe or rinse the dropper tip. If you miss a drop, try again. Wipe any excess liquid from your face with a tissue. If you need more than one drop, wait at least 5 minutes before applying the next drop. Wash your hands to remove any medication after use.
Overdose:
An overdose is unlikely to cause serious issues. If the solution is accidentally ingested, drink fluids to dilute the medication. Contact a healthcare provider, hospital, or Poison Control Center immediately, even if no symptoms appear.
Missed Dose:
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double doses.
Who Should Not Use Voltaren Ophthalmic Solution (Diclofenac Sodium)?
Do not use Voltaren Ophthalmic Solution if you are allergic to diclofenac sodium or any other ingredients in the solution. Refer to the ‘Ingredients’ section for more information. Do not use the solution if you are allergic to other NSAIDs, such as acetylsalicylic acid, diflunisal, ibuprofen, flurbiprofen, ketoprofen, indomethacin, mefenamic acid, piroxicam, sulindac, or tiaprofenic acid.
If you have any concerns or experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as skin irritation, rash, or difficulty breathing, consult your doctor.
