Trilipix is used to help reduce cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. If the levels of these types of fat in the blood are high, they can be associated with an increased risk of atherosclerosis. Sometimes it is given in combination with other cholesterol-lowering medications.

Avoid drinking alcohol while using Trilipix. Alcohol can raise your triglyceride levels, and may also damage your liver. Avoid eating fatty foods that are high in cholesterol. Trilipix may not work if you are not following a healthy diet plan. In rare cases, Trilipix can cause a condition that causes a breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue. This could eventually lead to kidney failure. Call your doctor immediately if you experience muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness, especially if you also have fever, nausea, vomiting, and dark colored urine.
Patient Family Information : Take Trilipix exactly as prescribed to you by a doctor. Do not take Trilipix in larger amounts or for longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Trilipix can be taken with or without food. If you also take cholestyramine (Questran), colesevelam (Welchol), or colestipol (Colestid), take them at least one hour before taking Trilipix, or between 4 and 6 hours before taking Trilipix. Do not take these medicines at the same time, or at the same time you take fenofibric acid. “Statin” cholesterol medications can be taken at the same time as Trilipix. This medication is only part of a complete program to treat high cholesterol. The treatment may also include diet, exercise, weight control, and other medicines. Sever Side Effects : Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of allergic reaction including: hives, difficulty breathing, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop taking this medication and call your doctor if you have any of these other serious side
Less serious side effects include: headache, dizziness, tired feeling, joint pain, mild back pain, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, or diarrhea, constipation, bloating, indigestion.
