Indication : Minocin is a medication used in the treatment of certain infections or may be used in combination with other medications to treat severe acne.

Precaution : Tell your doctor of any medical conditions or medications especially if: you are pregnant, planning on becoming pregnant, or are breast-feeding; you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement; you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances; you have kidney problems; or you have an autoimmune disorder.

Warnings : Minocin may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or lightheadedness. Do not drive or participate in any other potentially dangerous behavior until you are aware of how you will react to Minocin. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you will react to Minocin as the medication may cause you to burn more easily. Long-term or repeated use of Minocin may cause a second infection. Minocin only works against bacteria and will not treat a viral infection. Mild diarrhea is common with antibiotic use, but if a more serious form of diarrhea occurs, contact your doctor immediately. Tell your dentist or doctor you are taking Minocin before you have any dental work or surgery. Hormonal birth control may not work as well while you are taking Minocin. You should use an extra method of birth control, such as condoms, while taking Minocin. Use extreme caution when giving Minocin to the elderly as they may be more sensitive to the medication. Minocin should not be used in children 8 year

Patient Family Information  : Always follow the instructions given to you by your doctor when taking Minocin. Ask your doctor if you may take Minocin with food as some brands allow it will others require an empty stomach. Take Minocin by mouth with a full glass of water and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking the medication. If you are taking bismuth salts, calcium salts, colestipol, iron salts, magnesium, urinary alkalinizers, sucralfate, vitamins/minerals, quinapril, didanosine, or zinc salts, do not take them within 2-3 hours before or after taking Minocin. For the best results, take Minocin at approximately the same time every day.

Contraindication : Do not take Minocin if you are allergic to any ingredient in the medication or if you are taking acitretin, qisotretinoin, methoxyflurane, or penicillin.
