Indication : Combivir (Lamivudine/Zidovudine) is a medication used to treat Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This antiviral medication works by keeping the HIV from reproducing in the body. Combivir (Lamivudine/Zidovudine) does not cure HIV or AIDS.

Warnings : When taking Combivir (Lamivudine/Zidovudine), some patients have developed lactic acidosis, a life threatening condition. If you are overweight or have liver disease, if you are a woman, or if you have taken certain HIV or AIDS medications for a long time you may be more likely to develop lactic acidosis. Speak to your doctor about your risk. Patients also with hepatitis B may have liver symptoms when medication is stopped. Liver function tests will need to be performed by your doctor for several months after stopping Combivir (Lamivudine/Zidovudine). It is important not to miss any doctor appointments.

Take this medication as directed on the label or by your pharmacist, doctor, or other healthcare provider. Each dose is taken with or without food. Combivir (Lamivudine/Zidovudine) is usually prescribed with a combination of different drugs. It is important to take all of the medication prescribed to you by your doctor to best treat your condition. Patients taking Combivir (Lamivudine/Zidovudine) will have lower blood cells in the body to help fight infections. You can easily bleed from an injury or become sick from being around people who are ill. You will need regular blood test to ensure your blood cells do not get too low.

Contraindication : Do not take Combivir (Lamivudine/Zidovudine) with any of the following medications: Retrovir, Epivir, Epzicom (abacavir and lamivudine) and Traizivir (lamivudine, abacavir, zidovudine).

Sever Side Effects : Severe: Pale skin, unusual weakness, easy bruising or bleeding; white patches or sores inside your mouth or on your lips; fever, chills, body aches, flu symptoms; trouble swallowing, trouble standing up or climbing stairs; pancreatitis (severe pain in your upper stomach spreading to your back, nausea and vomiting, fast heart rate); or liver problems (loss of appetite, clay-colored stools, stomach pain, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), dark urine).

Common Side Effects : Common: Numbness or tingling; headache, dizziness tired feeling; mild nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; cough, runny, or stuffy nose; sleep problems (insomnia); or changes in the shape or location of body fat (especially in your legs, neck, trunk, arms, face, and breasts).

Other Side Effects : Other: Get emergency help if you notice symptoms of lactic acidosis including numb or cold feeling in your arms and legs; feeling dizzy, tired, light-headed, or very weak; slow or uneven heart rate; muscle pain or weakness; trouble breathing, or stomach pain, nausea with vomiting.
