Indication : Cogentin is used in combination with other medicines to treat Parkinson Disease. It can also control tremors and stiffness of the muscles caused by antipsychotic medicines. Cogentin works by decreasing the effects of acetycholine, a chemical in the brain. This reduces tremors and muscle stiffness.

Storage : Cogentin is to be handled and stored by a health care professional. If you have been instructed to use Cogentin at home, store it exactly as instructed. Keep Cogentin away from children and pets.

Precaution : Certain medical conditions can interact with Cogentin and cause unwanted side effects. Tell your doctor if you have an englarged prostate, irregular heartbeat, glaucoma or if you are at risk of glaucoma, tardive dyskinesia, or urinary retention. Tell your doctor about any prescription and non-prescription medications that you are taking before using Cogentin. Some medicines can interact. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or if you plan on becoming pregnant before taking this medication. Tell your doctor if you are breast feeding a baby before taking Cogentin. There is a possibility that Cogentin can be found in breast milk and affect a nursing baby.

Warnings : Cogentin can cause blurred vision that can become worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Be cautious when using Cogentin. Do not drive or perform any unsafe tasks until you know how you react to Cogentin. Cogentin can cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting that can become worse with alcohol and hot weather. Cogentin reduces your ability to sweat and causes the body to overheat. Avoid becoming overheated in hot weather or during exercise; heat stroke can occur. Be sure to drink plenty of water. Lab tests may be required for you to safely take Cogentin. Keep all of your scheduled appointments.

If you have been instructed to use Cogentin at home, a doctor or pharmacist will instruct you on how to use it. Do not use Cogentin if the solution contains particles, if it is cloudy or discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged. Keep all syringes and needles, used and new, away from children and pets. Talk to your pharmacist about how to properly dispose of used needles and syringes.

Contraindication : Do not use Cogentin if you are allergic to any ingredient in this medication or if you have angle-closure glaucoma, bleeding problems, esophageal achalasia, myasthenia gravis, intestinal or urinary blockage, or ulcerative colitis.
