WHAT IS AGGRENOX? 

Aggrenox (Aspirin/Dipyridamole) is a prescription medication that helps reduce the risk of stroke in patients who have had blood clots. Aggrenox’s classification is platelet aggregation inhibitors or hematologic antiplatelet agents. It is a combination of aspirin and dipyridamole, which prevents blood from clumping and clotting and makes platelets less sticky.   

AGGRENOX PRECAUTIONS 

Before taking Aggrenox, contact a healthcare professional if you are allergic to the ingredients of this medication or have any other allergies. Inform your healthcare provider further if you have a family history or medical condition of:  

  • Kidney Disease 
  • Liver Disease 
  • Nasal Polyps
  • Heart Problems
  • Myasthenia Gravis

As this drug contains aspirin, patients younger than 18 years old must not administer aspirin if they are suffering from flu, chickenpox, or other undiagnosed illnesses, or just had their vaccine. Administering this medication while experiencing one in the list above puts you at risk of Reye’s syndrome. This disease causes inflammation in the liver or brain. 

Geriatric patients may be more sensitive to the side effects of this medication, such as dizziness and bleeding.  

This medication must only be administered at extreme necessity during pregnancy. Talking to your doctor or pharmacist is advised to discuss the risks and benefits of taking this medication while pregnant. 

This medication passes into breast milk and may cause harm to a nursing baby, so inform your healthcare provider if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.
