WHAT IS ADVAIR HFA?

Advair HFA (Fluticasone/Salmeterol) is a prescription medication that helps with the treatment of asthma. It also helps to prevent the worsening of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and emphysema.  It is a combination of Fluticasone, asteroid, and Salmeterol, a bronchodilator medication. The steroid helps in calming airways and reducing swelling, while the bronchodilator medication is a long-acting beta-agonist and makes breathing easier by relaxing the muscles around the airways.

Advair HFA is not a rescue medication and should not be used for relieving sudden asthma attacks.

ADVAIR HFA PRECAUTIONS

Before taking Advair HFA, contact a healthcare professional if you are allergic to the ingredients of this medication or have any other allergies. Inform your healthcare provider further if you or a member of your family has suffered or is suffering from the following medical conditions:

  • Eye Problems
  • Overactive Thyroid
  • Potassium Deficiency
  • Magnesium Deficiency
  • Weak Immune System
  • Infections (Tuberculosis, Herpes)

Advair HFA may put you at an increased risk of QT prolongation. This condition may lead to serious and (rare, but possibly fatal) irregular heartbeat and other symptoms. This risk may increase if you suffer from certain medical conditions or take other medications that may cause QT prolongation. Consult your healthcare provider and inform them about all the medical conditions and other medicines you take before administering Biaxin.

Potassium and magnesium deficiency may also lead to an increased risk of QT prolongation. The threat could also increase if you take certain medications, such as diuretics, or suffer from medical conditions, such as vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, and sweating.

This medication puts you at an increased risk of catching these infections. Avoid contact with people who have contagious infections such as flu, measles, or chickenpox.

Before undergoing surgery, make sure the doctor is aware that you are taking Advair HFA.

Before undergoing a dental procedure, make sure the dentist is aware that you are taking Advair HFA.

Geriatric patients suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are at an increased risk of catching pneumonia while using this medication. Geriatric patients are more sensitive to the side effects of this medication, such as QT prolongation.

The growth of pediatric patients may temporarily slow down due to prolonged use of this medication. Call your doctor for a consultation and monitor your child’s height.

This medication must only be administered at extreme necessity during pregnancy. Talking to your doctor or pharmacist is advised to discuss the risks and benefits of taking this medication while pregnant.

ADVAIR HFA DOSES

Follow the healthcare provider’s directions concerning the prescribed dose for your medical condition. Read the medication guide and prescription labels for the drug information and directions in taking this medication. Ask for help from a doctor or pharmacist if you don’t understand the instructions.

Advair HFA comes in one dosage form, which is aerosol for inhalation, and three dosage strengths, which are Advair HFA 45 / 21 mcg per actuation, Advair HFA 115 / 21 mcg per actuation, and Advair HFA 230 / 21 mcg per actuation.

Those strengths are equivalent to what we have available: the 45 / 21 mcg per actuation is equal to 50 / 25 mcg, the 115 / 21 mcg per actuation is equal to 125 / 25 mcg, and the 230 / 21 mcg actuation is equal to 250 / 25 mcg.

Prime this medication before using it for the first time by spraying it four times into the air. Avoid getting it on your face and shake well for 5 seconds before each spray. You may prime the inhaler by spraying it 2 times into the air when you have not used it for four weeks, or if you dropped it.

For the treatment of asthma, inhale two actions orally every 12 hours. The dosage must not exceed two actuation of Advair HFA 230/21 mcg (250 mcg / 25 mcg) every 12 hours.

After inhaling this medication, rinse your mouth with water without swallowing to avoid catching oropharyngeal candidiasis, a yeast infection in the mouth.
