WHAT IS ZONEGRAN?
Zonegran (Zonisamide) is a prescription medication commonly used adjunct with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in adults. It belongs to a class of drugs called Carbonic anhydrase inhibitor anticonvulsants, which works by blocking sodium channels and reducing calcium channels. Doing so stabilizes electrical activity in the brain and prevents partial seizures.

This medication is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers as this Zonisamide passes into breast milk and may cause complications to a nursing baby.

ZONEGRAN DOSAGE

This medication comes in three dosage forms and strengths: 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg capsules.
For the treatment of partial seizures, the recommended starting dose of Zonisamide is 100 mg, taken orally once daily. After 2 weeks of administration, the dose may be increased to 100 mg, taken orally twice daily for 2 weeks. After that, the dose may be increased to 300 mg taken orally daily, then 400 mg taken orally once daily, which can be taken as a single dose or divided into two doses. The maximum dose for this condition is 600 mg taken orally daily.
In case you missed a dose, take the medication tablet as soon as you remember. However, it is almost time for the next scheduled dose for your condition, skip the missed dose and take the next one. Don’t take a double dose of this medication to make up for the missed dosage.
In case of overdose or experiencing symptoms of overdose such as fainting or trouble breathing, call the local emergency hotline and seek medical attention immediately.
Store this medication at room temperature in a clean, dry place.
