YAZ Birth Control 28 day is a combination birth control pill that is 99% effective when used correctly. Like all birth control pills, YAZ Birth Control 28 day contains the hormones estrogen and progestin that work together to inhibit the maturation of egg cells in the uterus, thus preventing fertilization. Not only does YAZ Birth Control 28 day prevent pregnancy, but it is also the ONLY pill that is capable of treating premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) a more severe and inhibiting form of PMS. In addition, YAZ Birth Control 28 day is successful at preventing breakouts and treating acne in its users.

Storage

Store at room temperature. Protect from moisture and heat.

Precautions

Before using this medicine, tell your health care provider about any of the following:

1. If you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
2. If you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
3. If you have high blood pressure or heart disease
4. If you have high cholesterol or if you are overweight
5. If you have liver cancer, gallbladder disease, diabetes, seizures or epilepsy
6. If you have a history of depression, irregular menstrual cycles, or a history of breast or uterine cancer.

Warnings

1. See your doctor on a regular basis, do not miss any appointments.
2. Do self-examinations on your breasts monthly to check for lumps.
3. Missing a pill will increase the risk of becoming pregnant, so it is very important to take your pill every day.

Patient Family Information

1. Take a pill every day.
2. If an active pill is missed, the risk of pregnancy is the highest, take it as soon as you remember or you may take two pills at the next scheduled dose.
3. Backup birth control is not needed.
4. When two active pills are missed in a row during the first or second week, take two dosages for the next two scheduled dose.
5. Use back up birth control for the week following the missed pills.
6. When the first pack is finished, you may not have your period that month, this is expected.
7. If two months in a row are missed, contact your doctor because you might be pregnant.

Contraindication

Do not take YAZ Birth Control 28 day if you:

• Are pregnant
• Have a history of stroke or blood clot
• Have circulation problems (especially if caused by diabetes)
• Have a heart valve disorder
• Have breast or uterine cancer
• Have abnormal vaginal bleeding
• Have kidney or liver disease
• Have an adrenal gland disorder
• Have severe high blood pressure
• Have migraine headaches, or a history of jaundice caused by birth control pills
• In addition, do not take YAZ Birth Control 28 day if you are allergic to drospirenone or ethyinal estradoil

Severe Side Effects of YAZ Birth Control 28 day

Most severe side effects are:

• Sudden numbness or weakness
• Confusion
• Pain behind the eyes
• Problems with vision, speech, or balance
• Chest pain or heavy feeling
• Pain spreading to the arm or shoulder
• Nausea, sweating, or general ill feeling

Common Side Effects of YAZ Birth Control 28 day

Most common side effects include:

• Breast pain, tenderness, or swelling
• Freckles or darkening of facial skin
• Increased hair growth, or loss of scalp hair
• Changes in weight or appetite
• Swelling of your hands or feet
• Problems with contact lenses
• Vaginal itching or discharge
