Niacin is a B vitamin. Although Niacin can be found in various plants and animals, and as an additive to many other foods, some people have a lack of natural niacin in their bodies. Niacin can be used to lower cholesterol levels and reduce triglycerides in the blood. It may be used to lower the risk of heart attack in those with high cholesterol who have had a previous heart attack. Store this medication at room temperature in a cool, dry location.
The side effects you experience may be increase when this drug is taken soon after or soon before drinking hot drinks, or alcoholic drinks. Be careful when standing up too fast as you may experience dizziness. Certain medications may interfere with Niacin, especially medications containing colestipol or cholestyramine. If it is necessary for you to take these medications with Niacin, take them at least 4 – 6 hours after using Niacin.

If you have allergies to this medication or nicotinic acid, or if you have liver disease, a stomach ulcer, or active bleeding do not take Niacin.
Severe Side Effects:
lightheadedness, fainting, rapid, hammering, or uneven heart beats; short of breath sensation, swelling, jaundice, muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness with fever or flu symptoms and dark colored urine.
Common Side Effects:
Mild dizziness, warm or tingly feeling under the skin, dry itchy skin, fever symptoms (hot/cold feelings), queasiness, diarrhea, belching, gas, muscle pains, or difficulty sleeping.
