COMBIVENT RESPIMAT (IPATROPIUM BROMIDE AND ALBUTEROL) INHALATION SPRAY INDICATIONS
Combivent Respimat is an oral inhalation medication that consists of anticholinergic and a selective beta2-adrenergic bronchodilator. It is used for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who are on a regular aerosol bronchodilator but continue to have airway narrowing and require a second bronchodilator.
Combivent Respimat inhalation powder consists of two medicines that work together to prevent the constriction of the airways: albuterol and ipratropium. Ipratropium bromide blocks the action of acetylcholine and decreases the concentration of calcium to prevent contraction of smooth muscles in the lungs, thereby leading to opening of the lung airways.
Albuterol sulfate stimulates the beta-2 receptors in the smooth muscles of the lungs. It dilates the smooth muscles of lungs. In addition, it prevents mast cells from releasing mediators that can cause inflammation.
Therefore, both components help relax the smooth muscles in the lungs, improving better lung functioning.
