Bystolic (Nebivolol) is a prescription drug that helps treat hypertension or high blood pressure. Nebivolol belongs to a class of drugs called beta-blockers, which works by blocking the effects of certain natural substances in the nervous system called epinephrine, commonly known as adrenaline. Doing so lowers blood pressure and strengthens the prevention of stroke, heart attack, heart failure, and kidney problems. Beta-blockers also affect the blood flow or circulation in your body.

Pediatric patients are at a higher risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia when taking this medication, especially if they are vomiting or skipping meals.

BYSTOLIC DOSAGE

For the treatment of hypertension, the recommended dosage is 5 mg taken orally once daily. This dosage may be increased by your healthcare provider every 2 weeks, but must not exceed 40 mg/day. It is possible to take Bystolic tablets either with or without food.
In patients with renal impairment, the recommended starting dosage is 2.5 mg taken orally once daily. This dosage may be increased by your healthcare provider every 2 weeks, but must not exceed 40 mg/day.
In patients with hepatic impairment, the recommended starting dosage is 2.5 mg taken orally once daily. This dosage may be increased by your healthcare provider every 2 weeks, but must not exceed 40 mg/day.
In case you missed a dose, take the medication tablet as soon as you remember. However, it is almost time for the next scheduled dose for your condition, skip the missed dose and take the next one.
