BREO ELLIPTA (FLUTICASONE FUROATE AND VILANTEROL INHALATION POWDER) INDICATIONS
Breo Ellipta is a combination of inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and long-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (LABA). It is an oral inhalation powder used as a long-term daily maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and it decreases flare-ups. In addition, this inhaler helps treat patients with asthma 18 years and older.
Breo Ellipta inhalation powder consists of two active ingredients that function effectively together in controlling and preventing the narrowing of the airways.
Fluticasone furoate is a corticosteroid that has anti-inflammatory and vasoconstrictive properties. After inhaling Breo Ellipta medication, it prevents the release of inflammatory cells and mediators that can cause inflammation. Hence, it helps reduce airway irritation and help improve lung functioning.
Vilanterol is a long-acting beta-2 adrenergic agonist (LABA) that helps stimulate the beta-2 receptors in the smooth muscles of the lungs, which leads to opening of the airways in the lungs.
In addition, vilanterol inhibits mast cells from releasing mediators that can cause inflammation. Hence, the smooth muscles in the lungs relax, allowing for better breathing, and alleviating wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness associated with COPD.
