Arimidex uses
Arimidex (Anastrozole) is a prescription medication that helps with the treatment of breast cancer in women after menopause. It is known to be given to patients whose cancer has progressed, even after taking Tamoxifen, which is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that is also used for treating breast cancer.
It belongs to a class of drugs called aromatase inhibitors, which works by reducing estrogen levels in women to slow down the growth of certain types of breast tumors.
Some healthcare professionals also prescribe Arimidex for men to reduce estrogen and increase testosterone production.

Arimidex FAQs
What is Arimidex used for?
Arimidex is used for the treatment of symptoms of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. It lowers estrogen levels which breast tumors need for growth.
Aromasin vs Arimidex: which is better?
Aromasin and Arimidex are both aromatase inhibitors that are used for the treatment of symptoms of breast cancer in postmenopausal women. They lower estrogen levels, which are hormones that can attach to receptors in cancer cells and signal them to replicate and grow. Arimidex is a 1 mg tablet, taken once daily, while Aromasin is a 25 mg tablet, taken once daily with food. The typical treatment of Aromasin lasts 2 to 3 years, while typical treatment of Arimidex lasts 5 to 10 years.
Unlike Aromasin, Arimidex is also known as the first-line treatment for advanced breast cancer. Both medications are available in generic forms so that patients could spend less. Both medications have similar common side effects, but Arimidex is more likely to cause low bone mineral density, vaginal bleeding, and high cholesterol.
How much does Arimidex lower estrogen?
Arimidex 1 mg oral tablet approximately reduces 70% of estradiol in the span of 24 hours, and approximately 80% in the span of 14 days of administering daily.
